"Science is fun. Science is curiosity. We all have natural curiosity. Science is a process of investigating. It's posing questions and coming up with a method. It's delving in." Sally Ride

Welcome to Week 3 of Oasis Academy College Prep Science! I feel like we are in hyperdrive as we approach Labor Day weekend--time is flying by!

This week in Biology, we will continue to review the Biological Macromolecules (Carbohydrates, Lipids, Proteins, and Nucleic Acids) adding onto our knowledge of the Chemistry of Life from last week. We will be learning about the structure and function of each macromolecule as well by making models, testing for their presence in various substances, and analyzing food labels with a knew knowledge of "you are what you eat". This is a fun unit as it contains lots of labs and hands on activities! In case you may have forgotten these wonderful molecules, you can find a great video about them from the Amoeba Sisters that we actually watched in class.

With that, we will continue to review the Nature of Science and thinking critically about the validity of scientific data while we analyze controls, variables, and if the research is non-biased.

In Physics, we are continuing to reinforce concepts such as significant figures, scientific notation, dimensional analysis (i.e. converting units), and precision/accuracy while moving into vectors staying with motion in one dimension. The study of motion is referred to as kinematics and we will be playing with the different velocity equations this week using our own movement data and those of some different toy cars. Physics lessons can always be found in very fun and everyday places! We are also continuing to compare scalar vs. vector quantities. In case you do not remember the definition of a vector, Despicable Me's lovable villain Vector does a great job!
