The first week of Oasis College Prep science has flown by in a blur! This week, both classes Biology & Physics, focused on the scientific method and understanding data, lab equipment, and how to use our textbooks! Both textbooks are online at my.hrw.com. Your student has his/her login information, but I can share this with you if you would like. The online resources with these subscriptions are incredible. I want to go over TWO key features the textbooks offer that make learning a breeze for every type of student. The first, students can plug in their headphones and LISTEN to the chapter or assigned section while they read along. This is huge for students who struggle with reading and/or students who are both auditory and visual learners. The second is that students can download the book or audio to their computers to make learning on a go as easy as learning the scientific method, well ok, easier. Anyway, just an FYI for you! I do not always teach from the textbook, but I think they are valuable guides for our student scientists as they discover college prep curriculum and prepare to transition to WNC as a jump start student in the next year or two. Also, I will be emailing you all the course syllabus. Please let me know if there are any topics of interest for you so we can arrange you coming in to help with that lab and/or present to the class. Also, since we are a project based learning school, we are always looking for critical friends to help design, listen to, and critique our projects. I just wanted to say also that the students have been incredible. Thank you for sharing your students with me!

"Part of what it is to be scientifically-literate, it's not simply, 'Do you know what DNA is? Or what the Big Bang is?' That's an aspect of science literacy. The biggest part of it is do you know how to think about information that's presented in front of you." Neil deGrasse Tyson
